Show Wrap-Up Crush: Sidewalk Driver and Wakey! Wakey!

After we caught With The Needle That Sings In Her Heart, Sophia and I were able to scoot on over to TT the Bear's to catch some music.  We unfortunately missed Ad Frank and Giant Battle Wombat, but got there in time for New York's Wakey! Wakey! and Boston Band Crush favorites Sidewalk Driver.

Wakey! Wakey! played some awesome heartbreaking poppy songs with some excellent arrangements on violin, keys, bass, and drums.  It was very cool stuff.  I look forward to giving a listen to some of their recordings.

I got some photos of the band (and one video):

Sidewalk Driver are always an absolute pleasure to witness.  They rock hard by pulling a lot of '70s arena rock in, packaging it with some glam, wrapping the whole thing in awesome and shooting it back out at the audience with glitter cannons and smoke machines.  They are one of the best live bands in Boston and I look forward VERY much to the release of their debut album later this year.

I am still experimenting with the black and white photos (as you see in the Wakey! Wakey! set) and I got a whole bunch of photos of Sidewalk Driver at: http://www.bostonbandcrush.net/2009/2009-05-09-SidewalkDriver/index.html

Here are a few tastes:

I'm a big Sidewalk Driver fan. The songwriting, musicianship and performance skills of this band are on par with any act. The timing of the performance was perfect. One of the best acts out of Boston. Period.

That Wakey Wakey video is awesome. Do they play here a lot?

I don't know all that much about Wakey! Wakey! but they do seem to make it to Boston reasonably often.

I believe this was the first Wakey!Wakey! show in Boston with his full band. Mike Grubbs usually performs here under the same moniker, but solo. He played my CD Release party too. I love love love them. If I didn't love my mom so much I would have been at this show.
