Information Crush: Amy's Show List

This is your last chance to get some free culture and enjoy Shakespeare under the stars on the Boston Common. I haven't managed to make it, maybe this weekend? The Starlight Mints and Wye Oak at the Middle East on Thursday looks like a great show, thinking about that one. On Friday there are way too many choices of rock with the ultimate rockers Rock Bottom at Johnny D's, Angeline at the Plough and Six Finger Satellite at TTs. On Saturday, I'm betting their will be many people at Harpers Ferry in Allston to see The Radiators (and pretend they're in New Orleans, too bad Harpers doesn't sell Turbo Dog). Or head over to the Lizard and pretend you're seeing the Black Crowes with Boston Cover-Up (these shows tend to sell out so get there early if you're planning on being there). And Sunday night seems to have an abundance of cool events. There's the Scottish band Trashcan Sinatras at TTs, an Elvis show in honor of his death at Dick's Last Resort, a viewing costume party at Noir for the new season of Mad Men and at Toad there's the John Powhida night with special guest Mike Gent. On Monday, the Breeders are at the Paradise, enough said. And on Wednesdayyou can enjoy chick rock and cupcakes at Sophia's B-Day Party at the Middle East. Or if you have free tix you can see Dear Leader and the Company of Thieves at Copperfield's.

There are a couple of future shows that I want to give shout outs to. The first is the One Night Band at the Middle East on Saturday, August 29. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you mixed and matched band members to create new bands, here's your chance to find out. If you're a fan of local music, this is the show for you. In honor of Shonen Knife coming to Great Scotts in November, I'm doing a "Twist Barbie" dance of happiness. And then there's the big X-Mas show (yes, I said X-Mas) with El Vez and Los Straitjackets at the Paradise in December.
