When you're a music blogger, everyone's always telling you to check out this and that. I do my best to follow up on leads from friends and friends-of-friends, but this one, recommended by Mr. Brendan Quigley, has become my latest crush.Father Abraham is, in a nutshell, a Harvard-educated synthesizer-twiddling hip-hop artist. Once of the now-defunct Indefinite Article (who took third in the 2007 Rumble), Abe is now composing and recording as a solo artist, and is more than halfway through 52 Pickup, his ambitious project to write and record one song per week for the entire calendar year. His commitment to the project is staggering, even now 8 months in. He _will not_ miss a week for anything, because that's the kind of guy he is.
Visit the 52 Pickup site, where you can download all of his weekly tracks to date (he posts new ones every Wednesday). You can also download I Am Not a Sailor, I Am the Captain, the album he released late last year before embarking on 52 Pickup, in its entirety. (Neat trick: Translate the album's title into Spanish and see if you can figure out where it comes from.)
At this time Father Abraham isn't playing live but he's hoping to start again in the new year once 52 Pickup is complete, so be on the lookout. I love creative experiments so I'm really digging on his project and I urge you to check it out.
Here are a couple of tracks to get you started...
Pink and Purple (Black and Blue Remix) [download]
All My Friends Are CFOs [download]
Internet Girl [download]
