With Mike and Sophia away for the weekend and me gearing up for my big rock show(!) tonight, we've hardly had time to blog. But there's plenty happening that you should know about so let's catch up:
Tonight (in addition to countless other Halloween shows):
Local supergroup BrownBoot takes the Toad stage at midnight performing covers of Jeff Beck, The Faces & Rod Stewart. Featuring Rod Van Stoli, Jordan Valentine, Jimmy (Jax) Zavadoski and more, they've shared with us (and now you) some mp3 sneak previews!
Right click to download: Spanish, Too Bad, Stay With Me.
Tomorrow night:
Catch Christopher Pappas from Everyday Visuals as he opens the show at the Middle East down with his side project Forest Fires. Headliner Liam Finn is one of my favorite finds of the past few years on the national landscape (actually international – he's from New Zealand). I'll be bouncing back and forth between that show and the Beatings/New Dumb show at TT's.
Also tomorrow night:
Church hosts a benefit for Danny Hauser. Details:
The benefit is being organized by Billy Best, who is a cancer survivor and employee of Church. Danny Hauser is a 13 year old young man who lives with his family on a dairy farm in Minnesota. He is one of eight children. In late 2008, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. In January he underwent a round of chemotherapy. The Hauser family, like a majority of Americans, have a philosophical alignment with natural approaches to healing. With Danny so unhappy with the treatment, they decided to explore other options more in line with their own belief system. When their oncologist learned they were not moving forward with the next round of chemotherapy, he felt this was medical neglect and sought a court injunction, claiming that there is a 90 percent cure rate in Hodgkin lymphoma with chemotherapy. The judge in the case threatened to take Danny out of the home, put him in foster care and let the state government make the medical decisions for Danny in conjunction with the doctor rather than his parents.
There will be a silent auction. Raffles and prizes include Obama inauguration prints signed by Shepard Fairey, various Red Sox gear and other prizes.
