So many great choices for Thursday. You could start at Toad for the early part of the night and see uke master Melvern Taylor. Afterwards there are many venues that have great line-ups. Gordon Gano, yup the guy from the Violent Femmes, and his his new band is at the Middle East with Sidewalk Driver and Mascara. Also on Thursday there's the Lovewhip cd release at Church or go to TTs for John Powhida International Airport, Logan 5 and the Runners, Weisstronauts and Mercy James (great local line-up!). On Friday, I'll Be at Precinct to see My Own Worst Enemy, Classic Ruins, Port Charles Quintet and Mars, but Slim Jim and the Mad Cows at the Plough would be fun and the upstairs downstairs shows at the Middle East look great as well (better act fast, I hear there aren't many tix left for this). On Saturday, the Tiki Bash presented by LUPEC looks really groovy but if that's not your thing try the Scissormen at the Lizard or the rockabilly show at the Plough. I can't believe how many good shows are happening on Sunday. My top pick is Shonen Knife, they haven't been here in a long time (of course it is a really long flight from Japan) and to see them in a tiny place like Great Scotts is really cool. Another band that hasn't been here recently (actually I didn't even know they were still a band) is Drivin' n Cryin' at TTs. On Monday local pop band Pants Yell! is having a release party at ZuZu's. And on both Monday and Tuesday you have a chance to see Grant Lee Phillips at Passims. He's a great performer and you can now enjoy a beer there (yay!).
