The new year has started out really cold but fortunately there are so many hot shows to keep you warm. On Thursday, Kay Hanley (in town for the Hot Stove Cool Music show) is doing a gig at the Lizard Lounge. It's such a small room, not certain if there are still tix available or not. Also on Thursday, the Gobshites start their January residency at the Burren (songs about drinkin' should warm ya up!). Friday brings a strong local rock show to the Middle East with Ketman, Reverse and Bacchus Knife. Strokes guy, Julian Casablancas is at the Paradise. Saturday has way too many choices that are tempting to me. There's Downbeat 5 and the Motion Sick at the Rosebud and there's Sidewalk Driver, Auto Interiors and Watts at Precinct and there's My Own Worst Enemy playing at cd release party for Mars at the Lizard (my pick for the night). The 10th Anniversary of the Hot Stove Cool Music show is at the House of Blues on Saturday as well with a stellar lineup including Tinted Windows (with members of Hanson, Cheap Trick, Smashing Pumpkins, Fountains of Wayne), HSCM All Stars (Peter Gammons, Bronson Arroyo, Bill Janovitz, Theo Epstein, Ken Casey), MC Mike O'Malley and a special set by Kay Hanley from Letters of Cleo plus others. The ticket price is a little steep for me these days but the lineup is solid and it's for a good cause. Sunday night has the Dutchess and the Duke at TTs and The Coachmen at the Rosebud. On Monday Grant Hart (from Husker Du!) is playing his rescheduled show at the Middle East with openers Mike Gent and Ian Adams. Monday also has the Broken River Prophets at Charlie's Kitchen which looks fun. On Tuesday Movits! is at Great Scotts and they're a Swedish swing hip hop jazz band. Saw them on the Colbert Report and they look really entertaining.
Remember, the more people who go to the shows, the warmer and cozier it'll be. Just sayin'...
