Here we are at the end of January and there are great shows to entice you out of your cozy homes to brave the cold. On Thursday, Great Scotts has Retribution Gospel Choir (with members of Low) and the Gobshites are back again at the Burren for some good Irish drinking songs (I went last week and it was a good time). Friday has a couple of pretty awesome shows with Eddie Japan and Huck at Sally O'Brien's (love free shows!) and then there's a garage night at Precinct with JJ & Thee Cuban Heels, The Swinedells and The Downbeat 5. Since both shows are in Union Square, maybe a litlle club hopping is in order. Saturday night has many many choices. There's Cheap Trick and Dear Leader at the House of Blues (okay, who besides me thinks that this is an odd bill? both great bands but on the same bill?). Also there's a benefit show at the Paradise with Three Day Threshold and Cassavettes. For old school music Saturday has the Crybabies, the Varmints and Kenne Highland at the Cantab and Barrence Whitfield is at the Plough. Sunday night brings the mellifluous sounds of Damon and Naomi to the Brattle Theatre. Monday has Delta Spirit doing a soldout show at the Middle East (hopefully you're lucky enough to have gotten a ticket). Tuesday has a cool show at Great Scotts with Adam Franklin (one of the guys from Swervedriver) & Bolts of Melody, The Crushing Low and Cropduster. On Wednesday, it's the second One Night Band Reunion with Milk of Amnesia! with Brownboot, Naked On Rollerskates, St. Helena, Jimmy Ryan and Apple Betty at the ME. Also on Wednesday Evan Dando of Lemonheads fame wil be at Great Scotts for an intimate gathering, very cool.
